Komets Development Program
The Kenosha Komets offers two levels of development, our Learn to Skate "Ignition" session and Learn to Play Hockey "DEVO" session.
Learn to Skate "Ignition"
The IGNITION learn to skate with hockey program is for kids who have never ice skated before or have very limited experience.
Ages: 3 - 9
Focus: The program is focused on the fundamentals of skating required for hockey players.
Goal: The goal is to remove skating aids and prepare new skaters for the next step, the DEVO program. Skaters will be able to master the basic skills required to include:
- get up off ice
- forward stride
- glide turns
- move backwards
- snowplow stop
Practices: One 30-minute long practice on Saturdays and One 60-minute long practice on Sundays.
Progression: Players who successfully graduate the IGNITION program will be able to join the DEVO program.
Cost: $50 per two month session for returning registrants. Fee waived for new registrants!
Learn to Play Hockey "DEVO"
The DEVO program is designed for skaters who have either completed our IGNITION program or already meet basic skill requirements.
Ages: 3 - 11
Focus: Saturday practice will focus on skating and hockey skill development. Sunday practices will consist of building skills and having scrimmages where skills are applied through playing hockey and having fun!
Goal: Skaters will be able to master the basic skills required for hockey to include:
- advanced skating
- stick handling
- shooting
- basic team play
Practices: Two 60-minute long practices per week on Saturday and Sundays.
Progression: Skaters may repeat DEVOS until they master the skills required and meet the requirements to try out for the Komets.
Cost: $100 per two month session
If your child is already participating in the Ignition program and has moved to the far side of the rink during practice, you should be registering them for the DEVOs program.
Please register for USA Hockey membership before you begin the registration process!
All Kenosha Komets youth hockey programs from our development program to our Travel Hockey programs require each skater to obtain a USA Hockey Membership. The membership provides training to coaches and referees, funds to the state governing body (WAHA), and most importantly, your USA Hockey membership provides insurance for each participating skater. Please register for a USA Hockey membership before you begin the registration process.
